Chrsitmas Events near Street, Glastonbury and Somerset


That magical time of year is just around the corner and to help you get into the festive spirit, there are lots of Christmas events in and around Street this year.


There are Christmas markets. There are places to see Father Christmas. There are glittering Christmas light trails and more.


If you are in Somerset during the festive season and looking for things to do at Christmas in Somerset, you won’t be disappointed.



Glastonbury Frost Fayre Nov 25th

The Glastonbury Frost Fayre is An Extravaganza of Seasonal Magnificence When Our Community comes together to Celebrate ‘Peace and Goodwill to All’ at this Festive Time of Year.


Stalls and Late night shopping. Starting from 10am officially opened by the Mayor at Mid-day at the Meladrome Stage (top of High Street) and finishing at 6pm.


What else you can find at the Frost Fayre include:

Father Christmas and his helpers

All day buskers, at the Busk Stop (outside St Johns Church) and live street entertainment

Live Performances from our 5 stages (Benedict Street, Magdalene Street, Northload Street, Archers Way and the Meladrome Stage at top of the High Street.

Official “lights on” for the Market Square Christmas Tree

Park n Ride from Herbies Field to the entrance of St Johns Car Park (8.30am – 6.30pm) Herbies Field car park closes at 7pm.

Fairground Rides for children

Children’s Worlds can be found in the Small Hall (in the Town Hall) – crafts, shows and story telling for our younger visitors

More stalls can be found at St Benedict Church, St Benedict School, Glastonbury Assembly Rooms, Avalon Club, United Reformed Church and St Johns Church.


Monatcute House

25 November to 1 January (excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

Join us at Montacute House for mystery and mischief this winter. Whilst you and family explore the parkland, garden and house, you can join in the fun, solve the mystery and save the day!


Wells Christmas Market

Christmas in Wells - our Christmas Market is on Saturday 16 December between 9am and 3pm

Over 100 traders will fill Wells Market Place and the Bishops Palace Green with festive stalls, offering a range of gifts, crafts, and food and drink produce, giving shoppers and visitors to the historic city the chance to pick up some gifts and indulgent treats for the festive period.



Visit Santa at Glastonbury's Abbey House

Saturday 25th November, 12 noon to 5pm

Meet Santa as part of your visit to Glastonbury's ever popular Frost Fayre on Saturday the 25th of November. Each visit with Santa includes activities, a gift, photo opportunities and more. Parents are of course free and will also receive discounts on refreshments inside Glastonbury Abbey and Abbey House.


For each child a visit with Santa will involve:


Write a letter to Santa (or bring your own with you) which we will post to the north pole.

Decorate one of: a cookie, gingerbread man, reindeer or melted snowman.

Make reindeer food.

Decorate a snowflake.

Make a Christmas tree decoration.

A short story with Mother Christmas and an elf before the big moment of meeting Santa where each child will also receive a gift.

There will also be photo opportunities while at Abbey House and each visit with Santa will be photographed and then emailed to you after the event.

Somerset Rural Life Museum

19th December 2023 - 30th December 2023

Visit Somerset Rural Life Museum this Christmas for a traditional look at this festive period. Each day there will be a new art and craft activity for children to complete. See the website for more details of each days events.




Wookey Hole Winter Wonderland

You’re invited to get into the spirit of Christmas at Wookey Hole’s Winter Wonderland.


Your adventure includes three incredible Christmas experiences wrapped up into one magical day out plus all the other activities at Wookey Hole. Special Christmas experiences are included with your Winter Wonderland ticket!


Lights

Capture the magic of 100,000 lights underground.

You’ll start with a visit to the caves where over 100,000 of lights magically illuminate the way. It’s a breath-taking Christmas light show. Best of all because it is always dark underground, even the littlest person can enjoy the twinkle, without being grouchy because it is past their bedtime.


Santa

Immerse yourself in Santa’s North Pole Grotto, where every child will get to meet Santa and take home a present from Santa’s Elves from the Toy Shop. This year the toys are extra special as they are from Ty Toys. Our traditional grotto will make kids smile, with the whimsical displays of animals and children enjoying wintry fun.Meet Santa in his Grotto in the Mill and collect a TY Toy from his elves.


Magic

You’ll also get to watch a spectacular Christmas-themed circus show, performed in the Wookey Hole Theatre as part of your experience. This year the Grinch is out to spoil the Christmas show. Will they find the Christmas spirit for the finale?


This year there will be a Grinch inspired Christmas show. Shows are at 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm.

Your day out will include all the other attractions of Wookey Hole, including a special Christmas Movie in the 4D Cinema. It’s the perfect day out for all the family!


Winterlights – West Somerset Railway

24th November until 30th December


Winterlights returns to the WSR for 2023 At Bishops Lydeard Station, the magic begins.


At Bishops Lydeard Station, the magic begins. A seat aboard an illuminated train awaits, ready to take you on an unforgettable winter journey. Travel along our enchanted track, through woodlands and countryside.

Snacks and drinks will be available to purchase before hand in the welcome marquee before the journey.

Goodie bags are available to purchase with your tickets, and will be collected from the marque when you arrive.



Dunster by Candlelight

Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December

Dunster by Candlelight sees the medieval village turn its back on the present and lights it's streets with lanterns. The atmosphere is both traditional and exciting, truly an event for all ages. Travel in style with the West Somerset Railway and avoid all the stress of parking.


The Bishops Palace Wells - Christmas at the Palace

Outdoor Illuminations, festive workshops, Father and Mother Christmas, music and food – it’s Christmas at the Palace 2023.

The rooms of the medieval Palace building will be decked out in their Christmas finery with seasonal foliage from the Palace Gardens creating stunning adornments to complement the historic interiors. Visitors will enter the Entrance Hall with its roaring fire and explore the rooms of the Palace, which will also include the return of the popular local Schools Exhibition.


Christmas Illuminations

Outside visitors can explore the magical inner gardens which will be illuminated with festive decorations and Christmas Illuminations during special late night openings, including: 1st (Member’s Only), 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st December 2023. The Illuminations begin at 3.30pm on the late opening evenings and last entry will be 6.30pm, with the inner gardens open until 7.00pm.


Father and Mother Christmas

Father and Mother Christmas will be returning to meet local families and storytellers will be sprinkling some Christmas magic with tales of Christmas past.


Christmas Workshops

And creative types may be tempted by two festive workshops – a Folk Carols Singing Working on Friday 9th December and two Wreathmaking Workshops on Saturday 10th December (10am and1pm).

Festive Storytime

Beth Webb, Michael Loader and Rebecca Moore will be enthralling our little ones with festive tales and seasonal stories on 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd December.

East Somerset Railway – Santa by Starlight

2nd-23rd December

As if visiting Santa wasn’t exciting enough, seeing him under starlight gives that added sparkle to your festive fun here at the East Somerset Railway. On arrival, young guests will receive a goody bag (containing festive themed colouring sheets, crayons and a Santa based family quiz for you all to enjoy). Then, your party will embark our Special Santa steam train for a delightful 30 minute trip to the North Pole.

At the end of your journey, you will make your way across the line to the North Pole Station. Santa’s elves and our balloon modeller will be there to greet you. Whilst you wait to see Santa there will be festive refreshments of mulled cider and warming hotdogs for you to enjoy. Then you get your special time in Santa’s grotto where you can tell him how good you’ve been and receive your gift (if you have been good, of course!).

See the Christmas trees at Secret Valley

Secret Valley Christmas Trees (on the edge of the Quantocks in Enmore, just off M5 J24) is a family-run farm offering various different types and sizes of tree. They have years of experience so are able to advise on the best tree to suit you, whether you have a smaller space, or children and pets to consider.



Ice Skating at Clarks Village

Visit Clarks Village from 9th November until 7th January for a healthy dose of festive fun in a truly magical setting.


Completely undercover and featuring real ice, our enchanting ice rink is a stunning winter wonderland where you can soak up the glittering atmosphere, show off your skating skills and make some memories!

A fantastic activity that's perfect whether it's sunny or snowy outside, the 45-minute-long ice skating sessions are guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit.


Visit Festive Garden Centres

Finally, if you are looking for something that costs nothing to get in and will give you festive cheer then what about looking around some of the Christmas displays at local garden centres?
